Gems of Shadowlight

Lazuli walked outside. His family had always been interested in Gems, so his family named him after one. He always went out and looked for Gems. It had just rained, so looking through the dirt now would be easier. He walked out to his usual spot and took a large shovel. He began to dig. He continued to dig until he couldn't anymore. His shovel had hit something. He thought it was just rock, so he struck it again. This time the object felt even stronger. He felt frustrated. So he threw the shovel aside, and looked into the hole. He noticed something shining brighter than any gem he's ever seen before. So he raced back to his house. He quickly cleaned it and looked at it. Nothing. He knew there was something strange about this one. But he couldn't think of anything. Frustrated again, He went to his room and fell asleep.





He found himself standing somewhere he never was before. He looked around. He realized he was dreaming, but before he could get a better look at his surroundings, he saw a diamond floating, and shining brightly. He realized it was the same diamond he had dug up before. "Hello Lazuli. I'm Diamond." Lazuli stared. The diamond was talking to him." How can you talk? You're a gemstone." He asked. The diamond swiveled in mid-air. It looked like it was trying to say no "There is more to Gems than you may first think. I have a task for you." Lazuli was confused, but nodded "I need you to smash the diamond you found." Lazuli spoke, his thoughts. "I can't smash it! My shovel I dug it up with can't even crack it." He said, trying to understand what it meant. " In the same hole, below the diamond was a rock. It is strange but it can break the diamond. "Why would you want me to crack yourself?" He asked. The Diamond swiveled again "Just do it." And with that, the dream was gone.

Lazuli woke up. He remembered the dream. could it have been real? He thought. He knew it must be true. Strange dreams have meaning. He raced outside to the hole. No! He screamed inside himself. The hole had caved in from all the rain. He took out the gem in his pocket, and he threw it at the ground. It was dull now, and it dragged him out here so early for nothing. He was about to turn around, when he noticed it wasn't dull anymore. Through all the dirt that had splattered it when it hit the ground, it still glowed. He looked at it closer and picked back up. As he picked it up, it became dull again. It was too early for the sun to come up, so it wasn't the sunlight hitting it. He put it against the ground, and moved it around. In a certain spot, in glowed so much, Lazuli thought it would blind him. He picked it back up, and sure enough, it stopped glowing. He grabbed his shovel and dug in the area where it glowed the most. His eyes lit up as he saw the rock beneath. He picked it up. Could this work? he wondered, as he hit the rock with the gem. Surprisingly, it worked. It cracked. He smashed it again and again, until it broke completely. He looked at the inside. A mist came from it, and circled him. "Now. I did what you asked. Now who are you?" Lazuli asked. The gem took shape and said "My name is Lapis. I'm your brother"
